Dr Vahid Mohabbati

Dr Vahid Mohabbati has a special interest in interventional pain and using modern modalities to treat it – including neuromodulation and spinal implants (intrathecal pumps, spinal cord stimulators, DRG and peripheral nerve stimulators) (“remote control” pain relief) Radiofrequency Ablation(RFA) and other advanced pain therapies.
He is also an experienced physician in the treatment of cancer pain, nerve pain, musculoskeletal pain and joint pain.

Dr Vahid Mohabbati trained as an Emergency Physician overseas before moving to Australia to further his training in General Practice, Pain Medicine and Palliative Medicine in Brisbane and Sydney hospitals.
Dr Mohabbati was a Staff Specialist at Royal Prince Alfred(RPAH) and Chris O’Brien’s Lifehouse and a VMO at Liverpool hospital before moving into private practice.
Sydney Pain Management Centre (SPMC)was established in 1981. Dr Mohabbati became the Medical Director of SPMC in November 2018. Under his direction SPMC has grown substantially to become one of the largest Multidisciplinary Pain Centres in NSW and a Tier One accredited training centre by Faculty of Pain Medicine to train the next generations of Pain Specialists. The centre is now a trusted provider of acute and chronic pain conditions, servicing Parramatta, Campbelltown, and the Upper North Shore, through to remote areas such as Goulburn, Bathurst, Orange and the Central Coast.

Dr Vahid Mohabbati founded Sydney Pain Research Centre(SPRC)) in 2019 to assist with advancing the science of pain medicine. SPRC is currently involved in a number of national and international clinical trials, some first-in-human, and has recently won a $5 million grant as part of an ARC Research Hub to develop wearable technologies.
As well as mentoring young pain physicians coming through the ranks, as a passionate teacher and educator Dr Mohabbati continues to drive SPMC as provider of modern pain solutions in a supportive and evidence-based multidisciplinary environment.

Vahid’s philosophy for pain management:

“The art of medicine is to cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.” quote Ambroise Paré, physician to King François I or Hypocrites.

I believe medicine is an art and comfort and hope should be offered to every patient, in every encounter. One must never lose sight of the power we have in changing our patients’ perceptions and expectations of their diseases. While cure may not often be achievable , but relief is always possible. The art is to tailor a host of available options to fit one’s needs.
